Fall

California’s Endemic Yellow-Billed Magpie’s

Sep 1st - Dec 15th

The Yellow-Billed Magpie is one of only 2 California endemic birds, and luckily enough, I have been able to capture some great photography days with these beautiful birds. They are in my opinion one of the most beautiful birds around and an absolute joy to spend a day with as they play, plot, and tease each other and other birds with their playful personality. Depending on the time you visit, we may get some beautiful fall colors as well in these images. This location is a campground that is not very highly trafficked and is nestled in a remote valley of trees, receiving an “Excursion” rating. We will be using a “Hybrid” technique of photographing to adjust to the scenarios of the day as they move from area to area, yet they are still not completely comfortable with humans. This workshop receives a “3” on the challenge scale due to the difficulty of capturing them in good settings amidst the campground, but it will be possible.

Lake Shoreline Birds

Sep 1st - Nov 30th

One of my favorite things to do every fall is visit one of two lakes that receive little traffic in the mornings, and photograph and witness the life alongside the lake. From Grackles to Heron, we will find a wide range of wildlife as we lay along the beachfronts and spend a day with them. This day receives an “Adventure” rating as we won’t see many people, but will definitely run across fishermen at either of the two lakes. We will be using a “Hybrid” tactic in photographing as we adjust to the scenarios of the day yet try to stay as natural to the environment as possible and we will definitely be laying in prone all day long. This workshop receives a “2” on the challenge scale as we will have good opportunities to photograph different species of birds.
