Point Reyes Workshop

Join Wildlife Photographer Jeremy Neipp on an Unforgettable 3 Day Excursion to Point Reyes. Point Reyes is home to a plethora of coveted Fauna like Tule Elk, Bobcat, and Elephant Seal. Not only this, but Point Reyes is also the most popular choice for birds migrating through California, boasting nearly 490 different bird species spotted here over the years.

With the wide variety of subjects to choose from, we’ll be spending most of our evenings focusing on the Tule Elk rut happening in September. What makes this further unique is that Point Reyes is the only place to capture Tule Elk with scenic ocean cliffs in the background, something not found elsewhere. In the mornings, we’ll spend our time focusing on capturing a unique family of River Otters that have taken up a taste for pelican, while also photographing the migrating birds through the area, such as Terns, Shorebirds, and the famous Snowy Plover. With Jeremy’s knowledge of the area and best locations to set yourself up for ideal photographs of these animal species, you’re guaranteed to walk away with photos you’ll love.

 Itinerary

Day 1:

  • After Traveling, we will all meet up at the lodge in Inverness and have an early dinner together in preparation of our evening ahead.

  • As sunset approaches, we’ll head out to photograph the Tule Elk Rut for the first evening along those dramatic coastlines of Point Reyes. You’ll walk away with an amazing experience and some amazing photos.

Day 2:

  • After getting a good night's rest, we’ll eat some Breakfast on-the-go and head out towards the River Otter’s home where we will hope to watch them hunt Brown Pelican… a spectacle not seen elsewhere. We’ll also attempt to make the most of the morning by photographing Snowy Plovers, other shorebirds, and Terns all in the nearby area.

  • Approaching noon, We’ll take a break for lunch back at Point Reyes Station and have some downtime to explore the small town. After this, you’ll have the option to head back to the hotel to take a quick nap, or to head out with Jeremy for a quick hop over to a nearby lagoon.

  • A few hours before sunset, we’ll head out to photograph the famous Tule Elk with those deep blue water backdrops of Point Reyes once again. Building on your experience from the previous day, we’ll challenge ourselves to take even more creative and unique photos of the Rut and stick around until sunset to get that golden light.

Day 3:

  • On our final morning, depending on what’s been providing the best opportunities, we’ll either pursue capturing more photos of the River Otters, or we’ll take our chances with capturing more photos of shorebirds, Terns, and Pelicans along the beach side. Either way, it will be a great way to close out with an experience to remember in these scenic environments.

  • Before we leave, we’ll have one last lunch together as a group to recap our experience, share our highlights, and what we’ve learned throughout the course of the workshop.
